Mufflon - deep in the woods with Lukas Schäfer

Over four seasons, “Mufflon” documents Schäfer’s uncompromising approach to building, riding, and developing lines that are barely noticeable at first glance—all handcrafted, all with maximum commitment.

From idea to vision: The project’s origins date back to the end of 2022, when the first ideas were born in the woods. What began as a single feature gradually evolved into a larger vision. Without a clear master plan, but with all the more motivation, a complex network of lines, drops, kickers, and features emerged over the course of months.

"The visions here seemed limitless. Pursuing them made the dream of an entire video part with cool features tangible."

When Patrick Sturm was regularly riding with Lukas and his crew in 2024, the decision was made: camera on, release pressure, just shoot. The edit grew organically—including detours, setbacks, and unexpected twists.

Setbacks included: A serious crash at the Backyard Battle in Wales temporarily ended the season: broken neck, no contests, no firm plans. But instead of calling it quits, the break was used to generate new ideas. Another feature in the bike park, the slopeline, renewed energy – and in the end, everything fell into place.

"Patrick kept filming, and it all came together," says Schäfer.

"Mufflon" represents a deep commitment to the art of mountain biking – to building lines that don't scream, but whisper. To mountain biking as a process. And to videos that take their time.
